The first Glenmorangie to be finished in ultra-rare Palo Cortado sherry casks, the expression has been aged for a total of 12 years – eight in American white oak bourbon casks and four in Palo Cortado. The sweet and nutty sherry is created purely by chance, when the protective ‘flor’ yeast does not form on sherry intended to become Amontillado. Bottled at 46% abv.
The nose opens with sweet toffee, fudge and vanilla aromas, which lead to notes of moss, mulled wine, ginger, chocolate and cinnamon. On the palate, treacle toffee and milk chocolate flavours interlace with clove, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg. Fruity undertones shine through, along with hints of rye bread and salted nuts. The finish is a long and nutty one, brimming with spice, leather and a touch of aniseed.
